“The Leash” Destructive Testing Underway

Amick Associates, Inc. is preparing to validate real-world loading conditions for “The Leash” outboard motor restraint system — both on land and on the water.

Using our 100-ton horizontal test bed, we’ve fabricated a custom jig to closely replicate the forces applied by a full-size outboard motor. Both the primary Leash and its companion “pigtail” will be tested to failure under controlled conditions.

The first pull will torture a used unit with over 160 hours of field time. Immediately after, a brand-new unit will be pulled to full destruction. Expected breaking strengths range between 25,000 and 28,000 pounds.
