Coil Lifters

Coil Lifters are below-the-hook lifting devices engineered specifically for handling coils of steel, aluminum, wire, and other rolled materials. Unlike C-hooks, which handle coils in the horizontal position only, coil lifters are designed to grip and lift coils from the vertical or angled position — inserting into the coil's inner diameter and securing the load mechanically.

Coil lifters provide positive load engagement through mechanical gripping, giving the operator greater control and reducing the risk of load disengagement compared to passive lifting methods. They are commonly used in steel service centers, rolling mills, and manufacturing facilities where coils must be moved between storage, production lines, and shipping.

All coil lifters supplied by Amick are designed in accordance with ASME BTH-1 and comply with ASME B30.20 requirements. Each unit is proof tested at 125% of rated capacity and permanently marked per ASME standards.

Type

Mechanical coil lifting devices.

Applications

Steel service centers, rolling mills, coil storage warehouses, and manufacturing facilities handling coils of steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper, wire, and other rolled materials. Used for loading/unloading, production line feeding, and in-plant material transfer.

Exceptions

Ensure the coil lifter is rated for the coil weight and size being handled. Verify that the jaw opening accommodates the coil's inner diameter. Never exceed rated capacity. Inspect mechanical components, pivot points, and load-bearing surfaces before each use. Annual periodic inspections are required per ASME B30.20. Operators should be trained on the specific coil lifter model in use.
