Standard Beams

Standard Lifting Beams are structural below-the-hook devices that attach to a crane or hoist at a single center pick point and support the load from two or more points along the beam's length. The beam carries the load in bending — distributing weight across multiple attachment points for balanced, controlled lifting.

Standard beams are the most common below-the-hook lifting device used in industrial operations. They provide a straightforward solution for lifting long, wide, or awkwardly shaped loads that cannot be safely handled with a single sling connection. By spreading the load across multiple pick points, lifting beams reduce sling angles, improve load stability, and minimize the risk of load tipping or swinging during a lift.

All standard beams supplied by Amick are designed in accordance with ASME BTH-1 and comply with ASME B30.20 requirements for marking, proof testing, inspection, and operation. Each beam is proof tested at 125% of its rated capacity before delivery.

Applications

General overhead lifting in construction, manufacturing, plant maintenance, steel erection, and mechanical installation. Used wherever loads require multiple pick points for balanced, stable lifting — including structural steel, precast concrete, equipment, vessels, and long or irregularly shaped materials.

Exceptions

Do not exceed the rated load capacity marked on the beam. Ensure the load is properly rigged and balanced before lifting. Inspect for cracks in welds or base material, permanent deformation, missing or illegible identification plates, and corrosion before each use. Annual periodic inspections are required per ASME B30.20. Do not modify, drill, weld, or alter a lifting beam without manufacturer approval.
