Steel Tools
Steel Tools are a distinct line within the Amick no-touch tool catalog — solid steel bar construction with a head and handle configured to match the work. Where wood and aluminum tools use a uniform shaft profile, steel tools are built around a bar that's sized for the application: 1/4" or 3/8" diameter, and lengths chosen to balance reach with control. The result is a precise, responsive positioning tool that excels where a worker needs fine command of a load through a head designed to contact slings, hardware, or shackles cleanly.
Steel Tools are available with four head types: C, S, J, and M. Each head matches a specific contact scenario — C and S heads for push-pull contact with sling mediums and rigging hardware, J head for quick pull engagement on slings, shackles, and rigging hardware, and M head for specialized positioning work. The head selection focuses the steel tool line on rigging-contact scenarios rather than direct load contact, complementing rather than duplicating the Shepherd-led wood and aluminum tools.
The handle is the second configuration choice. Short steel tools at 14" length come with a wood handle for a comfortable, traditional grip on close-in work. Longer steel tools at 24" and 48" lengths come with one of three handle styles: a bicycle grip for cushioned hold on extended-reach work, an on-plane handle oriented in line with the head for natural pushing and pulling motion, or a 90-degree off-plane handle rotated perpendicular to the head for T-handle leverage when twist or torque is required. The combination lets a rigger pick exactly the geometry that fits how the tool will be used.
Like every Amick no-touch tool, steel tools are positioning and guidance equipment — not lifting devices. They extend the worker's reach so a load can be steered, steadied, and aligned without anyone putting hands on it. When the standard configurations don't fit the work, our team builds custom bar diameters, custom lengths, and custom handle profiles to match the application.

Type
Solid steel bar construction in 1/4" and 3/8" diameters. Available with C, S, J, or M head. 14" length pairs with a wood handle; 24" and 48" lengths pair with bicycle, on-plane, or 90-degree off-plane handle. Custom bar diameters, lengths, and handle configurations available.
Applications
Rigging operations involving direct contact with sling mediums, chain, wire rope, synthetic slings, shackles, and rigging hardware. Well suited to construction, steel erection, plant maintenance, manufacturing, oil and gas, power generation, and motorsports operations where a rigger needs precise tool response on hardware-contact tasks rather than long-reach load steering.
