Wood Guidance Tools

Wood Guidance Tools are Amick's most accessible no-touch tool category — solid wood shafts paired with a aluminum head, built for everyday hands-free load positioning. The wood shaft is lightweight, easy to grip without gloves, and forgiving in the hand over a long shift. For crews handling suspended loads in indoor environments, on production floors, in warehouses, or anywhere a basic positioning tool is needed, the wood guidance tool is often the first one off the rack.

Every Wood Guidance Tool in our standard line is built with a Shepherd Staff head — the curved steel hook that gives a worker pushing, pulling, and positioning control over a suspended load. The Shepherd head is the most widely used head type in no-touch tool work because it engages directly with the load itself rather than the rigging hardware, making it the right call for steering, steadying, and aligning loads as they're lifted, lowered, or moved. The Double C head is also available in a wood configuration for applications that benefit from a two-point contact pattern.

Wood Guidance Tools are offered in 18-inch, 2-foot, 3-foot, 4-foot, 6-foot, and 8-foot lengths. The shorter lengths suit close-in positioning work; the longer lengths keep operators clear of pinch points and crush zones during overhead lifts. Because wood is naturally non-conductive, these tools are also a sensible choice for environments where conductivity is a concern.

Like every Amick no-touch tool, wood guidance tools are positioning and guidance equipment — not lifting devices. They extend the worker's reach, replacing the instinct to grab, push, or guide a load by hand. When the standard configuration doesn't fit the job, our team can build custom lengths, custom heads, and custom shaft profiles to match your application.

Built in Pittsburgh since 1958. Custom lengths and head configurations available. Call 412-429-1212.

Type

Solid wood shaft construction with aluminum Shepherd Staff or Double C head. Available in 18-inch, 2-foot, 3-foot, 4-foot, 6-foot, and 8-foot standard lengths. Non-conductive and lightweight. Custom shaft lengths and head configurations available.

Applications

Material handling, warehouse and production floor work, manufacturing, light industrial lifting, and indoor rigging applications across construction, steel, oil and gas, power generation, and motorsports operations. Particularly well suited to environments where tool weight matters over a long shift or where non-conductive construction is a requirement.
