The Suspension Wheel & Wing Energy Management System (S.W.E.M.S.) is ARCR's flagship INDYCAR restraint product — engineered to manage the extreme energy released when suspension components, wheels, or wings separate from the chassis during impacts and failures.
S.W.E.M.S. feature an equalized high-strength HM Zylon core encased in a durable, cut-resistant Kevlar sleeve. This dual-material construction delivers exceptional tensile strength while the Kevlar jacket provides protection against abrasion, cutting, and debris damage during a separation event. The equalized design distributes loading across the tether system, preventing single-point overload.
Recognized as the strongest vehicle component restraints (VCR) available in open-wheel racing today, S.W.E.M.S. are manufactured by ARCR at our facility in Carnegie, PA, and supplied as OEM equipment through Dallara USA in Indianapolis for DW-12 and IR-18 chassis.
These systems have protected drivers at the highest levels of INDYCAR competition — including the Indianapolis 500 — where wheel and wing retention during catastrophic suspension failures is a critical safety requirement.
