No-Touch Tools: The M Head

April 21, 2026
Not every rigging tool can engage from both sides of the shaft. The M Head can. With hooks on both sides oriented in the same direction, workers have consistent pull and guide control from whichever face of the tool is accessible — without repositioning the tool or changing their footing. It’s a capability no other head type in the lineup offers, and it’s what makes the M Head the right choice when the job demands it.

How the M Head Works

The M Head has a hook on both sides of the shaft, both facing the same direction. That dual-side geometry is what sets it apart from every other head type in the lineup. Where the J Head commits to a single hook on one side, and the S Head offers two opposing hooks for approach angle flexibility, the M Head gives workers two engagement points oriented the same way — so whichever side of the shaft is accessible in a given situation, the hook is there and ready to pull.

The worker can engage from either side of the shaft, and the tool’s own positioning determines which side does the work. That combination of dual-side availability and consistent pull direction makes it particularly effective in tight or constrained environments where repositioning isn’t practical.

What It Does

The M Head is designed for pulling and guiding when pulling — controlling the direction and movement of a load or rigging component by engaging it from the side and drawing it into position. Applications include:

Tight space access — Reaching into confined areas where only one face of the tool can engage the load or sling, with the assurance that a hook is available on either side.

Awkward angle pulls — Jobs where the worker’s position requires engaging the load or rigging from the side rather than straight on, using whichever face of the M Head is best positioned.

Guided positioning — Pulling a suspended load or chain sling or web sling component into position while maintaining directional control throughout the movement.

Constrained environments — Situations where repositioning the tool or changing stance isn’t practical, and the ability to engage from either side of the shaft solves the problem without adjusting approach.

Available Configurations

The M Head is available across all of Amick’s no-touch tool construction types across multiple lengths:

Wood Guidance Tools — Solid wood pole with M Head, available in multiple lengths for everyday material handling where simplicity and weight are priorities.

Steel Tools — Heavy-duty steel construction available in multiple lengths for demanding industrial environments. Certain configurations feature a closed handle and 90° off-plane orientation for reaching into particularly tight or awkward spaces.

Aluminum Fixed Head Tools — Lightweight aluminum pole with fixed M Head, available in multiple lengths for extended use where tool weight matters.

Aluminum Removable Head Tools — Same lightweight aluminum construction with the flexibility to swap the M Head for a different head type as job requirements change. Available in multiple lengths.

When to Reach for the M Head

The M Head is the right call when the job requires pull engagement from either side of the shaft — whether that’s because of a confined space, an awkward approach angle, or a situation where repositioning simply isn’t an option. Its dual-side hook geometry and consistent pull direction give workers reliable control in conditions where other head types would require a different stance or a different tool entirely.

Part of a Larger System

The M Head is the fifth article in Amick’s no-touch tool head type series. Each head type is designed for specific contact points and applications — choosing the right one for the job is what makes no-touch tools effective rather than just present on the job site.
