Wire Rope
General purpose 6x19 and 6x37 class in EIPS grade, IWRC or fiber core. Rotation resistant 8x19 and 19x7 for unguided loads on single-part and multi-part lines. Casar and Python high-strength ropes for heavy lift, oil field, and specialty crane work, plus aircraft cable and coated wire rope. All wire rope assemblies are fabricated at the Pittsburgh facility: operations lines, crane cables, winch lines, draw bench cables, and oil field cables. Thimbles, clips, and swage and spelter sockets for those assemblies are covered in last month's rigging hardware article.
Uni-Ply Cable-Laid
Multiple wire ropes laid together around a core for maximum flexibility. Amick supplies Uni-Ply for sling fabrication, choker hitches, and irregular loads where standard six-strand rope is too stiff.
Stainless Steel Cable
Types 302, 304, and 316 in 7x7, 7x19, and larger constructions, with assemblies fabricated in Pittsburgh. Stainless cable for marine, chemical, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, washdown, and outdoor service where carbon steel rope corrodes.
Synthetic and Soft Rope
High-performance HMPE (Spectra, Dyneema), Vectran, and other engineered fibers for heavy lift, offshore, utility, arborist, and towing work where weight, non-sparking, or non-conductive properties matter. Manila, polypropylene, and standard synthetics for taglines, guidelines, and general rigging. Amick stocks all of it and splices it in-house.
Three Generations on the Rope
Rope selection is a balance of abrasion resistance, flexibility, rotation resistance, and strength, and Amick's team has been making that call since 1958. Five certified inspectors handle periodic inspection and replacement of running ropes and rope slings.
